Tegan’s struggle with disordered eating started at age 11, continuing well on into adulthood. But the more she fought for control over her body, the more she lost control over her overall health and life. In 2018, Tegan found Rock Recovery and her life was forever changed. In joining Rock’s groups, she never felt more seen, heard and accepted.

More than 28 million people in the United States alone are affected by eating disorders like bulimia, binge eating and anorexia. Moreover for teens, eating disorder-related health visits have jumped more than 107% across all eating disorders in the last five years. While early intervention and treatment is the biggest indicator for recovery success and relapse prevention in adulthood, more teens and families are experiencing barriers to accessing treatment. The need for services is high and the number of providers who specialize in eating disorder treatment is extremely limited. These conditions are not merely a struggle – they can make it impossible for clients to get care for a life-threatening mental health disorder.
